Vanderkaay Wins 200m Freestyle Title on Night Two of 2011 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships in Palo Alto
On night two at the 2011 ConocoPhillilps USA Swimming National Championships in Palo Alto, Team Speedo USA’s Peter Vanderkaay won gold and the national title in the men’s 200m freestyle with a time of 1:46.45. Vanderkaay was part of the gold-medal-winning U.S. men’s 4x200m freestyle relay at the 14th FINA World Championships last week. After a record-setting performance in Shanghai, Ryan Lochte was also in action on Wednesday and finished third in the men’s 100m backstroke.
Competition continues Thursday with the men’s and women’s 50m free, the women’s 100m breaststroke, the men’s 100m butterfly, the women’s 400m IM and the women’s 4x200m free relay.
The event will serve as the selection meet for the 2011 Pan American Games, October 15-22 in Guadalajara, Mexico, and the 2011 FINA World Junior Championships, August 16-21 in Lima, Peru.
Universal Sports will carry the competition LIVE Aug. 2-3 at 9 p.m. ET. NBC will air packaged shows on Aug. 6 from 4-6 p.m. and Aug. 7 from 5-6pm ET. Prelims begin at 9 a.m. PT each morning with finals beginning at 6 p.m. PT; and all sessions will also be webcast live at www.usaswimming.org/nationals.
