2011 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships Underway in Palo Alto
Following Team USA’s dominant performance at the 14th FINA World Championships in Shanghai, the top swimmers in the country are back in the pool for the 2011 ConocoPhillips USA Swimming National Championships at Stanford University’s Avery Aquatic Center in Palo Alto, Calif. The five day meet began on Tuesday, Aug. 2 and comes to a close on Saturday, Aug. 6. Team Speedo USA stars Ryan Lochte, Dana Vollmer, Peter Vanderkaay, Katie Hoff, Jessica Hardy, Tyler Clary and more are all in action.
On Tuesday night, Dana Vollmer followed up her world championship title with a win in the 100m butterfly in a time of 57.26 and Katie Hoff finished second in the 200m IM with a time of 2:11.26. Competition continues Wednesday with the men’s and women’s 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke, the men’s 200m butterfly and the women’s 4x100m free relay.
The event will serve as the selection meet for the 2011 Pan American Games, October 15-22 in Guadalajara, Mexico, and the 2011 FINA World Junior Championships, August 16-21 in Lima, Peru.
Universal Sports will carry the competition LIVE Aug. 2-3 at 9 p.m. ET. NBC will air packaged shows on Aug. 6 from 4-6 p.m. and Aug. 7 from 5-6pm ET. Prelims begin at 9 a.m. PT each morning with finals beginning at 6 p.m. PT; and all sessions will also be webcast live at www.usaswimming.org/nationals .
