Two-Time Olympian, National Team Veteran, and World Champion Swimmer Joins Team Speedo

LOS ANGELES (April 10, 2012) - SPEEDO® USA, a division of The Warnaco Group Inc. (NYSE: WRC), today announced that 30-year-old swim star Brendan Hansen has signed a multi-year agreement with the company through 2013. A two-time Olympian and U.S. National Team veteran, Hansen returned to the pool last year after retiring from professional swimming at the end of 2008. With wins in the 100m and 200m breaststroke at the 2011 ConocoPhillips National Championships and three gold medals at the 2011 Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, Hansen is making waves on the comeback trail as he aims to qualify for his third Olympic team and represent Team USA in London.

Hansen turned pro after a dominant swim career at the University of Texas where he won NCAA titles in both the 100m and 200m breaststroke all four years. Hansen’s storied career highlights include four Olympic medals, including two gold medals in the 400m medley relay, four individual World Championship titles, former World Records in the 100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke and 400m medley relay, and eight national titles, including five in the 200m breaststroke and three in the 100m breaststroke.

A native of Havertown, Penn., Hansen resides in Austin, Tex. where he continues to train under legendary coach Eddie Reese; he is represented by Erika Wright of Wright Sports & Entertainment.

“Speedo is synonymous with the sport of swimming,” said Hansen. “As I embark on this new chapter in my career, I appreciate Speedo’s support and am excited to be part of the Speedo family.”

“In his long career, Brendan has not only been a dominant force in the pool but he has also established himself as a leader of Team USA and a true ambassador for the sport of swimming,” said Jim Gerson, President of Speedo USA. “We are excited to welcome Brendan to the Speedo family and are proud to support him in 2012 and beyond.”

As part of Team Speedo USA, Hansen will be part of an athlete advisory group to the SPEEDO® Aqualab, the brand’s research and development center, and will compete in the revolutionary new Speedo FASTSKIN3 Racing System, the first cap, goggle and swimsuit designed to work together as one to optimize the athlete’s comfort and performance in the water.
